If you’ve been sidelined from your favorite sport—even with the occasional ache or pain—don’t brush it off! It is important to facilitate a healing response as quickly as possible to avoid the development of abnormal movement patterns or “bad habits”.
Although plenty of them occur, not every injury is the result of a traumatic incident (think of sudden collisions or falls that result in ligament tears or fractures.) Often, our sports injuries are the result of overuse, improper form, and training through discomfort.
Physical therapy is a great treatment option for sports injuries because PTs are movement experts! Our first goal is to help your body reduce inflammation and promote tissue healing. We then focus on establishing normal movement patterns and correcting problematic ones.
Without functional moment we can not move through our environment and experience as much joy in life as we did before injury.
It’s true that people who are in better shape going into surgery are in better shape coming out.
